Submit your exhibition proposal in a .pdf format.
Imagine you are proposing this exhibit to a jury, so you will project your .pdf as you explain the exhibition- images are very important to grab our attention.

A press image is the postcard image for example and the press release is the text that announces the show, dates, and concept of the exhibition. The press image and release typically go out to the press a month or more before the show. You will not be sending it out, but you will have it in your proposal.

Good sources for sample loan agreements are to go to the museum and ask for an example, research online, or check out the "legal guide for visual artists".

Contents of binder should be typed and consistently formatted with

the same letterhead and font/style. Contents should be included in this order. Do not put your paper in plastic sleeves.

Field Research Projects | ART Professional INTERVIEW

Conduct a phone or email interview or live studio/gallery visit with an artist, curator, or other art professional that you admire and want to learn from. Transcribe the interview and submit in typed format, single-spaced. Include the name of who is speaking in bold text with semicolon. Do not interview other students.

Example of transcription:

Puthoff: It is great to have the opportunity to chat with you. I am curious about the new performance art research center you are opening in Hudson, NY. How did you decide to open a center in Hudson?

Abramovic: Well, you see…

Include printed copy of interview in final portfolio and blog the interview as well.

Assignment 9: Applying for Opportunities + Slide Script

1)    Find a current artist opportunity, such as exhibition or artist residency and apply for it. A copy of this application will go in your final binder.

2)    Shoot new slides and develop a portfolio of 8 images. Write a slide description list, or slide script, for these images. Save slide script as .pdf and a .doc file. Bring to class on Wed. NOV 11th.
Follow guidelines for slide labeling from CAA site, then also include work description with each thumbnail. See sample slide script on blackboard.

Field Research Project | Exhibition Proposal

Go to two exhibition openings on the first Saturday in Kingston.
November 7th | 5-7 pm. If you cannot make it then, you will need to make an appointment with the directors of the spaces to meet with them separately.

The two spaces to research are:

KMOCA | Kingston Museum of Contemporary Art

During each exhibition opening speak to at least three people you do not know. Collect press material from the space. Type up your notes on what you find and be prepared to share them in class.

Collaborate with another student in the class to develop an exhibition proposal for a group show in one of the galleries. You may choose to curate your own work into the show you propose as well, but it must be a group show with at least two artists.

Your exhibition proposal should be submitted in the form of a .pdf and include the following details.

The ISCP holds an open studio event in November (Nov. 6-9th). SUNY New Paltz Lecturer, Rena Leinberger, is currently an artist-in residence at ISCP. Your assignment is to visit Rena’s studio as well as the studios of 4 other artists-in-residence. Ask them each a pertinent question about their art practice and career. Collect the artist’s press material from their studios and blog about what you learned form the studio visits.
